LED Solar Pathway Lights Fix

Easy Fix For Broken or Leaning Solar Pathway Lights

Most Solar Path Lights Have A Flaw -

Although sidewalk lights are great, they have one minor flaw. While the mounting poles are metal, the included spikes which are used to insert them into the ground are made of plastic. They tend to break off at the collar when you’re trying to stand them up straight. They also are difficult to insert into clay soil. Writing back to the company for replacement spikes was a hassle, so we came up with a fix, which actually makes them work better.

Plastic Spikes That Come With Solar-Powered LED Pathway Lights

Here's the Fix for Broken Spikes on Solar Powered Lights

Go to Home Depot, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, etc.

In the plumbing aisle, buy a length of PVC pipe. For my solar pathway lights, ½” was the perfect diameter for our HGTV Solar Pathway Lights. You’ll want the pipe part of the light to slide over the PVC pipe, so you could bring it with you.
1/2 inch PVC Pipe
Using a saw, cut the PVC pipe into 17-inchelengths at a 45-degree angle. You’ll want your new spike to stick into the ground about 7 inches.

Now, all you have to do is use a rubber mallet to pound your new PVC stakes into the ground. Slide the light assembly over the stake.

When you want to move or re-align a solar pathway light, slide the entire light assembly off the top and tap the stake. Or you can remove it entirely. Never hammer the top of the light!

This fix will make your lights will stand up straight and last even longer. As you can see from the photo, we’ve had these lights a long time, but they’re still going strong.
